The Colca Canyon Full Day tour gives you the chance to visit one of the deepest canyons in the world in just one day. First, you’ll depart early from Arequipa toward the Colca Valley, crossing high-altitude Andean landscapes where you might spot vicuñas and llamas. Then, you’ll arrive at the Condor’s Cross viewpoint — the perfect spot to watch the majestic Andean condor soaring over the canyon, a breathtaking natural spectacle. Afterwards, you’ll take in the canyon’s dramatic depth, explore ancient terraces and visit traditional villages along the valley. Finally, you will return to Arequipa with memories of a full day filled with nature, culture, and adventure. Thus, this tour packs the essence of southern Peru into a single unforgettable day.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Plaza de Armas – Yanahuara – Sabandía
We will start the day early with a pickup from your hotel to embark on a three-hour journey to the city of Chivay, departing from Arequipa. Our immersion into the Colca Canyon begins with our arrival in Yanque, where we will enjoy a nourishing breakfast. After recharging, we will continue the journey to Cruz del Cóndor, a space where these magnificent birds find their habitat. With wingspans of up to 3 meters, you will have the opportunity to observe them both in flight and from the viewpoint. We will then proceed by vehicle to Choquetico, Maca, and Antahuilque, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Colca Valley and pre-Inca terraces, still in use for cultivating grains and other foods.
The next destination will take us to the relaxing thermal waters of Chacapi, where we will enjoy an hour of relaxation. Later, we will return to Chivay for a delicious lunch at a tourist restaurant (additional cost of S/ 40 per person). After the meal, we will embark on the journey back to Arequipa by vehicle, making stops at the Mirador de los Volcanes, located at an altitude of 4800 meters, which offers a privileged view of the surrounding volcanoes. We will also visit the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, a wetland that houses vicuñas and alpacas. We will then continue the journey until we reach the center of Arequipa, where our day concludes.
*Within the visit to the Condor viewpoint, you will have the opportunity to spend time in that location or explore the Pinchollo Lagoon, home to Andean birds and a fascinating cactus forest.
